I hate to admit this one since I own one myself, but:
profits are down 84%, and they're killing off buell.. really? With all the merchandise they sell, and the high prices they charge for all the aftermarket parts? perhaps people are realizing that harley isn't keeping up with the times and the competition is drawing away their customers.Oct 26, 2009 17:52 by toyotaboy -

The site has a "flag" option and that item was flagged - but only once so far. This is a community site and there are going to be issues from time to time (of offense, differing viewpoints, copyright etc. ) and usually we give it some time to gauge the community reaction to an item before taking any action - the author could edit the submission or other TT users can flag it. I'm very sorry if that post caused you offense.

@finalarena: oops I replied under my bfs acct. Yeah, the internet is the internet, I don't care if he doesn't like Planned Parenthood, I just thought the "They Kill Babies!" a little too much. I suppose the Catholic one could also cause the same offense. I just thought this site was a little more civilized and aware of other people than most stuff out there. Does that make sense? Again, I'm new and am learning how it works. I do love this site! It's one of the coolest things I've found in a while. Is this bad that I interupted the thread with a Q? I tried to write to the admin, but the email didn't get through. Are you the admin?

@tprjones: Yes I agree. I have a thing where I try not to use the word hate. Negativity usually produces more negativity. Perhaps this is an example?

@discomeg2: Yes I am the admin - hello. I've found the community here to be amazing, intelligent and extremely civilized - and positive. I'd like to think the post in question did not set out to ostensibly offend and my first instinct is to give the benefit of doubt. Also pre-moderation and active moderation is a grey legal area for a website owner so I have to rely on content being flagged (unless I can see it is illegal etc).
"Is this bad that I interrupted the thread with a Q" - I don't think anyone minds (its an interesting debate) - but feel free to "delete" if you like (the thread will be archived). You should be able to email admin at admin@tweaktoday.com if you want to contact me.
Please note that, if the submission in question was moderated then this thread would have to be removed also.

@discomeg2: This is sad in several ways. I'm really sad you're hurt for starters. I'm glad people have pretty straightly said what they think about that post in the comments though. @discomeg2: I can't get on board with some sort of "positivity is the only way to go!" attitude, and I don't think the offending submission was inevitable. I have a feeling it will get bigger. It is a good community I think , not that I "know" you guys at all, it's just curious to see how these thing evolve and what steps site admins take to keep them headed in a certain direction.
You should read this article: http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2009/10/11/enough_with_the_bright_side/ It's an interview about "staying positive" with that lady who wrote Nickled and Dimed. It's a weird article, but smart.

I certainly don't see this as a "negative" site though, and it's certainly not the mission of the site. There's all sorts of people on here and I imagine I've offended someone somewhere.Oh, and I love Barbara Ehrenreich.

@athanie: Article is in the works, this site inspired the topic, this one and Drawer Geeks, if you know that. I wrote to the person who interviewed Ehrenreich asking her what did she think of Ehrenreichs responses and she wrote the following: Hi Meghan,
I'm glad to hear you found the interview thought-provoking. Her book had a
similar effect on me, as far as thinking about it after the fact. She definitely advocates for realism, not pessimism -- I specifically asked
her about that, because it seemed so perverse to be encouraging the latter. She seems to feel that you should know what forces are against you, instead
of being in denial, and that way you can be prepared for anything. Thanks so much for writing. It's great to know that people are reading the
Globe.

@discomeg2: hee hee, fair enough- we had a rule about the word "bored"... It's really an incredible community, welcome to it!
I was just thinking... that planned parenthood post was extra weird because the information you glean from people on this site is generally very basic (family situation, work, location) and completely esoteric (what sort of haircut your mom forced on you when you were ten, your obsession with the colour green), but not as much as the stuff in between, such as views like this. That may have been what felt so out of place about that post for me.Oct 26, 2009 18:22 by merendis. -

@lewisfilms: its a fun mission, not a negative one.
@discomeg2: it is lamentable that someone has been insulted, and i'm sorry that you were, but there is always a possibility of offense in open forum style interaction and i feel that taking steps to eliminate it could be foolish as freedom of speech is eroded when posts are deleted before being read and judged by the community.
i am new to tweaktoday and the response to this post has made me understand just how special this community is.
there are other posts which could also be flagged and possibly deemed insulting due to imagery or language used but because they contained humor no one seems bothered by them.
a mission statement and clear rules about the expected content of posts could be useful and forums would be amazing.Oct 27, 2009 01:45 by coco-tidan. -

He said he could send it back for repair, I was like no way because I work from home on websites, without it I'd was screwed. I complained to the manager and he said I could get a mouse from the store for free. He was trying to get me to get this cheapo mouse, instead I picked out the 65 dollar wireless one. I never went back. EVER. 3 weeks later, a week after my warranty expired, the mother board fried again.

A couple months ago Dell launched "Della," a line of computers which targeted women consumers. The computers were slow and had such built-in applications such as "Remember Your Milk" (as I remember, this was the real name!), and other "perks" that supposedly appeal to women and their lifestyle.
Engaget.com states it nicely: "Just ten or so days after Dell officially hooked up with its female counterpart Della, helping real womenfolk find computers that meet their recipe-finding, calorie-counting ways, she's now been thrown the wayside and all mentions of her have been replaced with (or redirected to) the similar, yet decidedly more androgynous "Lifestyle." Last we heard, Della was sitting on the couch watching Notting Hill with a pint of Ben and Jerry's, crying softly to herself and wondering what other female stereotypes she can best beat with a dead horse."

Maybe calling it "Remember the milk" rubs me the wrong way since it seems to be directed at the stereotypical women demographic. Maybe to make it more applicable to me, it should be called "Remember the beer" or "Remember to deposit the paycheck that you got from your full time job" (since women exist in the workforce nowadays vs. the 40s), etc.

I consider myself a First Amendment purist, and absolutely believe that all Americans have the right to free speech. That said, I also think it's our obligation to be honest about the "news" products we're producing. I have no problem with Fox News being on the air - my issue is that they go to great lengths to paint themselves as a "fair and balanced" news organization, which is blatantly untrue.

I've removed the channel from every TV in my home, and the TVs of my family members as well. My friends, well I did not have to do it to their TVs, because they took care of it themselves.

@passepartout - I think you are doing exactly the right thing. They are ONE of many sources of information to you as you determine how you feel about a particular issue/person. My problem is with the folks who watch only Fox News and believe that they are getting both sides of the story, when they most certainly are not. It's our responsibility as viewers to decide where we want to go to get our news - but there also should be some responsibility on the news organization to be transparent with their biases.

It's awfully sad that most of the companies employees who have the option to take the company's insurance, cannot afford to do so because of the low wages.

OH, also! These people need to learn that if they promise more bars in more places, THEY NEED TO F%&#ING DELIVER. They're the type of company that thinks they know better than the customers. And did I mention my parents could be saving $100 a MONTH on our family plan by switching to Sprint? Buy my mom won't because she loves her iPhone too much. -_-;; *sigh*

ALSO! We'd get better coverage with Sprint. I'm sick of not being able to use my iPhone IN MY OWN HOUSE. xD Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Agreed!! Their coverage SUX!!! The only reason I am with them is because I <3 my iphone. They are screwed the minute iphone customers can go elsewhere!

hold on. The ONLY reason microsoft is so, for lack of better word, bad, is because the people that work there have never used macs. they think that what they make is really good, even if that means its bad.

Having used both, I'd rather snatch myself bald than try to use a Mac again. I found the experience to be maddening. I know people who love Mac's and God bless them, but before I go Mac I will go Linux. But for now, I will stick with my Windows XP machine and do just fine.

I'm with @leopicado on this one. Comcast is my behemoth cable tv and internet provider, and I wish there were a good alternative to them, but there isn't (I live in a condo so can't put a dish anywhere). I frequently think about whether I could make due without their services. TV, likely. Internet, no way! I also hate Microsoft, but I have more frequent interaction with Comcast.
