That would just kind of be the ultimate solitude, wouldn't it. I might just have to try it some day. I had never really given skydiving any thought until I came here, but you're making me think about being bold. Someday.

My favorite place to seek solitude (if there were no barriers) would be the beach. In particular when the weather is kinda bad. When I am home, solitude is easy to find. In social situations or at work, I find bathrooms to be a good location. Although it kind of depends on the bathroom in question. [Edit: this is an old picture from the archives and I think this picture was taken by Stephie, not by me.]

Behold, the Boggy Creek Greenbelt Park. It's not a pretty park, or an exceptionally clean one, but it's all I have for regular visits when I just need to take a walk and clear my head. Amusingly, it's so nondescript, the only photos I have bothered to take of it were on the first rainy day after 8 months of drought, and all the nasty urban run-off was foaming up the creek where the water falls over the exposed concrete sewage lines. Bill Clinton did a community outreach project in the park a few months ago, and all the work the happy volunteers did re-digging the volleyball sand pit (which *no one* uses) and widening the gravel sections of the trail have already fallen into disrepair and grown over with grass now that the El Nino kicked in. I live on the wrong side of the tracks :-P

The wrought iron chair that I keep by the corner of the garage, and the backyard in general. The back is is my dominion, no one ever bothers to go out there as they know that I am quite possessive of it.

For me, my morning commute. I drink coffee, listen to an audio book or CD--it's actually quite pleasant. Evening commute is a different story.

@rabbitdan: That is the KGON/Stonehenge Tower (had to look this up). Behind that is Council Crest park, where you can see 4 big mountains on a clear day (including Mt. Rainier, which is pretty far away, and Mt. St. Helens). Dunno what my favorite audio book is; right now I'm "reading" The Road. Makes it easier to drive when I don't have to take my eyes away from the road (to read). : )

@kellydna: that's some mighty intelligent predictive software you have there. your iphone clearly has its heart in the right place. my phone comes up with riot, followed by shot. i think it plots violence and wants to influence me to promote civic unrest. at least that's what i'll say when they haul me in.

Daydreams are a life saver to get away from stuff without people even realizing you're gone. Just have to peek out every once in a while and nod to people's stories.
