The 'cheese' scar. When a flatmate moved out, I discovered that she'd left nice cheddar cheese behind. Well. Cheese. NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. Completely overcome with cheese desire, I held the cheese in my left hand and chopped off a chunk with a knife. The knife slipped and cut the web of skin between my thumb and first finger. I bled copiously all over the cheese.

I'm encouraged by all the colour manipulation it took to get this really visible.
In 7th grade I had a sinus infection that went behind my eye (periorbital cellulitis). If you chopped a baseball in half an stuck it on top of your eye you'd have an idea of the inflammation. The scar is the result of the second of three surgeries in one month to prevent the infection from eating my brain.
I suffered no vision damage.May 02, 2009 20:59 by merendis-

Here's two forehead scars from two different incidents; not sure which story goes with which scar. One is from a shopping cart (sister hanging off one side, me off the other; sister gets off without telling me; shopping cart turns over straight onto my forehead) and the other is from a chimney liner (we used them as coffee tables in our living room when I was a kid; I was hiding behind the drapes from my sister; when I blindly ran out to scare her I plowed headfirst into the edge.)

Hit my head when I was 8 or 9 years old. I didn't notice it until blood started dripping down my face. I must've scared the hell out of my mother when I walked into school looking for her with my face covered in blood. All I have left of it now is that little scar, a little crack all the way down to my eyebrow (not visible) and this lovely story of it.

Wowee, my legs are white!
I got this scar in 1998 while vacationing with my (now ex) boyfriend in Cancun Mexico. We went horseback riding along the beach and my legs were eaten alive by mosquitoes. I had huge welts on my legs for at least a week afterward.
I'm convinced there are baby mosquito or Mexican spider eggs in my leg that have never hatched.I hate this scar. It's a forever reminder of that ex-boyfriend.
I rarely wear shorts because of it... hence the paleness.tweaktoday.com/missions_accomplished/2009/3/30

This palm scar is the result of being stupid. I got, of all things, an orange juice straw (plastic, and you stick it into the orange itself and kinda mush out the goodness) stuck on my thumb. 5 minutes later, I am standing in front of the sink with a one inch gash in one hand and an exacto blade in the other. I chose not to tell my mother. We went bowling that evening. I tried to bowl with a clutched fist for my freehand. My mom noticed.

i was 15 and visiting my brother for the summer in riverside, ca and one day i was home alone trying to fix my computer with it on my lap. i got up suddenly and felt a little scratch. i didn't notice blood pouring out of my leg until my brother's dog started sniffing my leg. my brother got home and asked what happened, i told him it was just a cut so i showed it to him. needless to say he rushed me to the emergency room because it was a gaping hole that i thought was nothing. only four stitches and sometimes it looks like a guitar head :)

This is the biggest (and one of the oldest) scars on me. I got it when I was 3: I fell on my driveway in Malaysia, chasing a funeral truck passing by. I love creeping people out with that story, but in all honesty, funeral trucks are more like noisy parade floats there, colorfully decorated and full of drums, horns and gongs trying to scare away evil spirits - the next best thing to an ice cream truck!

I recently had the same thing happen, and had a skin graph and VAC on it following surgery. Its a good lesson~! I would have posted mine, but its not at the scar stage yet, and too gross to look at. Now I will know what mine scar might look like, and a little dip where they dug it out~ You are a brave soul.

I actually had trouble deciding which scar to post (heal fast, scar easily). These are the result of punching something i shouldnt have while in college. i broke the fourth and fifth metacarple in half and after a month of lettin them "set" the doctor realized they didn't "set". So, the drilled two little holes in the top of my knuckles and shoved steel pins down the middle of the bone. The removal of the pins left these little shiney spots

A pillow fight scar.
As a 5th grader I was at a church "lock-in." It was for grades 5-8. Us boys decided to sabotage the girls with a pillow fight. I came in swingin' my poly fill pillow but was no match for a post-puberty 8th grade girl with a feather pillow. She sent me flying into the wall/floor transition. It broke a piece of bone off the joint in my right ring finger. After a summer of no swimming, surfing, or pumping up my brand-new super soaker, the cast came off and I've never been in a pillow fight since.

A skateboard accident.. Late afternoon mist and a vert ramp was clearly not a good combi :)
"Show me the trick one more time", my cousin said, "and then i'll give it a go". "Sure", i said. It was late and we were talking about going home, because it was getting darker, and colder. Today my cousin is no longer able to skate because of a knee injury (caused by skateing). We have broken a few bones from skateboarding together from pushing eachother a bit to hard.Still enjoy skateing though and guess you just have to know your limits.

I got this scar by attempting to remove the back of my watch with a steak knife in 2004. The knife slipped and gouged my thumb. I lost sensitivity around the wound for a couple months, but it has all returned. The greyish spot to the right of the scar is pencil lead that's been there longer than I can remember.

kind of bizar, but this was actually the neighbour-lady (a friend of my parents') driving her nail into my hand/thumb, I don't remember the exact story but it wasn't anything serious, bled like a motherfucker though. up to this day there's still this light-colored piece of scar-tissue in the shape of her nail on the back of my hand.
..should've probably taken this photo in daylight, it's hardly visible on this one.

When I was five, I was watching The Wizard of Oz in the preschool at church, while my mom was waxing the floors in the basement. Something amazing happened in the movie, I'm sure, and I ran to tell my mom about it. My depth perception must have been off. My head and the latch strike plate on the door frame collided, leaving me screaming on the floor with a gash in the side of my head, which Dr Cipolla stitched up later that night.

Right around my knuckle is a C shaped scar from an Xacto knife. I was trying to reset a violin neck on it's body, being real smart and holding the knife when applying pressure. The neck slipped and I cut my finger pretty deeply... luckily the joint didn't need surgery and healed after a month, and doesn't have any pain anymore. It's the kind of war wound I like and I'm sad that the scar is fading.

Around the age of 16 was running back and fourth from my car while it poured down rain carrying things inside. Well on the last run I actually shut the door and hit my face right above my eye with the corner of the car door. No one was home so I just sort of moved the skin back into place when it stopped bleeding. It's barely noticeable now but it was pretty gross at the time.

This is a scar from a car accident almost a year ago. One rainy Sunday morning I was driving down the interstate and I hydro-planed, then my car spun around, hit the median and flipped over on the drivers side. My window broke, arm hit the pavement and I had some serious "road rash". I never saw it, but everyone said it looked like hamburger meat. So, I ended up having surgery on it. Basically they stretched my skin together over it so I wouldn't need a skin graft. First pic is like a week after the fact, second pic is the day I got my stitches out, and the third pic is today! Luckily, this was my only injury.

When I was a junior in high school, we loaded up a car with water balloons and drove by the park where the middle school kids were having their annual "school's out" shaving cream fight. After throwing balloons out the car window, on the third trip around the block, someone threw a shaving cream can at the car, and it went in the window. The bottom of the can hit me in the side of the head. Realizing a few hours later that I needed stitches, I drove myself to the hospital, where a nurse (the mother of a girl on whom I once had a crush) stitched me back up.
