I know this is a little late, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Since I live in Idaho now, most of my childhood toys and whatnot are still in Illinois...but, one of my favorite childhood books did make it cross-country with me! It's the tale of Moonbeam, the littlest Whimsie, who doesn't like to go to sleep. The evil Switch Witch and Wizard Lizard (seen in the window) come up with a plan to keep him awake all night, every night with a magic light. Of course, he becomes very cranky...and the story continues. The story ends with Grandma Whimsie putting Moonbeam to sleep and covering the light. My mom read this to me because I hated to sleep, too.

I am a spontaneous occasional minimalist. I generally go through phases where I purge old belongings which leaves me without such memories of my childhood. I was a boring child anyhow.

when my parents and my brother and I went to canada for the holidays about 11 years ago (I must've been 10 or 11) we dropped by an aunt of my mom's and her husband, he was a painter and because back then I still did a lot of drawing he gave me this hardcover sketchbook filled with high-quality heavy-weight blank pages. I cherished it so much that throughout the years I only made 6 drawings in it (only the ones I thought worthy of my uber-sketchbook, the rest I probably did on a4 printing-paper).
this is definitely one of my favorite childhood things -- even though this book spent most of its time in my possession stuffed away in one of my closets.
last I heard was that uncle Gerry died of cancer, I wonder if he ever thought of me when running out of drawing-material ghehe.

LEGOS! I had about a trillion sets growing up that have over the years been handed down to countless brothers, cousins and nephews (hence the lack of photo). I once built a series of 3 - 5 foot tall buildings only so I could play "Godzilla" and reign destruction down upon the helpless metropolis. LIFE RULES!

This is my good buddy Mr. Bear. My mom's best friend got him for me as a baby shower present before I was born. He's had a hard life. You can see that he has quite a few bald spots. He used to be more of an orangish-peach color, with a round head and a ribbon around his neck. It's hard to tell in the picture, but he's really small. His body is about the size of my hand. People have thought he was supposed to be a pig before, but I promise he's a bear. :)

The first - The coolest - The most functional item throughout my childhood, is this 'koesiedoek'. A cloth made out of a towel which is very soft. I always slept with it and it saw alot of the world, as it always joined me on trips. It comforted me, there are alot of tears in it too.... [oh for the record, I put this thing in the washingmachine every now and than]

'Sleeping Cloth' or towel, don't have a proper English word for it since my parents made up the word, and it is half Dutch half Frisian. :)

This isn't my favorite item I've saved from childhood (that is still at my mom's house in MN) but this is close...this is a Seawees Baby Mermaid doll circa 1979. It was my oldest sister's originally but became one of many hand-me-downs. We had the big mermaids with long hair too (inset) but only the baby survived. They were the best bath toys ever!
