By OMSI is a full block of building with zero roof-ness. PDX isn't nearly as great as Pittsburgh was for abandoned buildings. You can see more of this place when @lesamonster and I went there last summer-http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirgabe/2872865151/

Well, I could not make it to the area I wanted to photograph for this mission... so, I took pictures of my second and third choices, since both were on my way.
LEFT: This is a building that I saw everyday on my way to college. It is located a block away from Childrens Hospital, the new TEMPLE School of Medicine, etc. It is just amazing that being centrally located on Broad St. has not being enough to save this building.
RIGHT: Right behind my work's MO there are abandoned buildings and houses, like this one, which at some point served as housing, and commercial space (it had a corner store). The good news is that investors have seen potential and are demolishing the old and building affordable housing for the community.May 02, 2009 14:33 by leopicado -

Located in Benicia State Park. Not sure what it was, but just outside the door is an open hatch and iron ladder heading down into a cement room roughly 8'x10'. It looks like some kind of old communication building.

This building has been vacant/occupied so many times since I was a kid I can't even count how many businesses have tried to make it there, but failed. I always thought it was cool cause it had a fire escape and there aren't many buildings with fire escapes here. I'm pretty sure it's haunted too. When I went to take a picture of it, I saw the lovely little sign on the right. I love whoever put it there. Oh, Texas.

This place has been in various (often precarious) states of disrepair for years. Weeds used to be half as high as the home. Seen its share of transient occupancy, gang graffiti. Don't recall seeing a "for sale" sign. Not likely it would sell at this point. It's in a "revitalization area." Latest efforts (yard clean up) most likely those of the city to keep crime down. Home sweet home.

@brandiiollis: They simply ran out of money. It was supposed to be a high-rise office building. They sold some units in advance, and used that money to start construction early, but then other buyers/investors didn't step up. Since the building wasn't go to be finished by the projected deadline, they had to return some money to the original buyers and then could not continue. No one has stepped up to purchase the property since then because there a ton of other office building being built on much cheaper real estate just down the road.

@mlmassey: It really is, probably only Dresden got it worse than Warsaw in WWII. It's an under-reported part of history, but there was an uprising here against the occupying Nazis that lasted 2 months without any outside help. As a punishment, the Germans destroyed what was left. Somewhere between 80-95% of the city looked like this in '45.

@thedigitalghost: I think Warsovians would disagree with the classification of "decay". It's really straight up destruction followed by Stalinist indifference/lack of funds. This city is an against-the-odds survival story and I'm so enchanted by it that I feel the need to jump to point out things like this in her defense.
