I borrowed this photo since I'm dogsitting and not on my computer. My favorite neighborhood restaurant is Papa Joe's Casual Italian. It's only 3 blocks from my house. The food is delicious and inexpensive. They have everything from pasta and pizza to sandwiches and salads. They even make homemade gelato. My favorite thing on the menu is their hot Chicken Club, which I actually had for dinner tonight! Yum. Yum.

NE Portland, Oregon:
A Scottish pub a few blocks away is without a doubt my favorite... especially in the summery months because they have a wonderful ivy covered patio.
My favorite things on the menu are all super unhealthy and fried. Scotch Egg, Chicken Strips/Fries, the most delicious Mozzarella Sticks of all time, and ... the beer!May 05, 2009 12:32 by lesamonster-

This is a small restaurant about 5 minutes from home. They have two menus to choose from... and trust me, there is plenty to choose!
My favorites are:
*Portuguese Menu: Appetizer-Codfish Nuggets w/ Garlic Sauce or Gulf Sauce
Entrée-Seafood Soup with Lobster. This is enough for 5 people.
*Peruvian Menu: Appetizer-Papa a la Huancaina (Baked Potatoe w/ light spicy Peruvian Sauce). YUM!!!!!!!
Entrée-Grilled meat, cooked with Peruvian Seasoning. Accompanied by a side of white rice/fried plantains and salad/pickled vegetables.May 05, 2009 10:50 by leopicado-

I'd have to go with Katana-ya. First, because it's actually in my neighborhood (ahem @flight404). Second, because the ramen and other food is delish. Third, because I'm usually in the mood for it. And fourth, it's cheap! It's hard to get a table most often because it's small (and good) but it's usually worth the wait.

salt and pepper. this little out of the way place used to be a commercial catering kitchen until it was bought out by a local couple, and now, it's still a commercial catering kitchen. every wednesday noon they open the kitchen up and serve a huge, delicious, meal (different menu every week) for 10 bucks. the food is fantastic, they sit you around a couple of old kitchen tables and the big prep tables, so when you go you always get to meet new people. it's pretty much word of mouth advertising, but on a busy day its standing room only and lined up out the door

Tough call, but this generically marked, tucked away pizzeria is Jimmy & Joe's. It can maybe fit a dozen people inside and another dozen outside. Always packed at lunchtime. An enormous slice of NY-style pizza (so big they serve it with it's own mini-pizza slicer) & a drink for five bucks. A great array of topping choices. I try to get something different each time, but so far a slice with spinach & feta has been my favorite.
(A close runner-up is Filiberto's. Good Mexican food, open 24 hours, breakfast served all day & all night. The carne asada fries are deadly but worth it.)

Is Filiberto's a chain? Because when we visit my relatives in Phoenix, the first thing we always do is make a huge Filiberto's run.
And now you've left me craving Mexican food. Where I currently live, Mexican restaurants serve chili. It's a sin.May 05, 2009 08:03 by merendis. -

@merendis: There's a handful of them around Phoenix and some in Southern California. Lots of knock-offs too: Roberto's, Armando's, Santiago's, Jilberto's, etc. All pale in comparison.

The French Laundry, Yountville.
Yes, I am totally cheating. I live in Duboce Triangle in San Francisco and I cannot think of a single restaurant in my neighborhood that I have actually been to in the 3.5 years I have lived here. So, since I am going to have to choose outside my neighboorhood, I thought I would reach a bit further to the north. Favorite thing on the menu... "Oysters and Pearls:" Sabayon of Pearl Tapioca w/ Malpeque Oysters and Osetra Caviar. Yes, I am a total snob. Suck it.May 05, 2009 07:12 by flight404-

I'll explain a bit, although feel free to make your own interpretations (that's the beauty of a signifier that has no clear cut connection to a signified):
@egli right on with the female chromosomes comment. I can see somebody took science seriously in school (I didn't, unfortunately!).
Yes, this is a homage to my mother's cooking. While she doesn't get mad if you're late, or pissed if you don't eat everything on your plate, I felt that those stereotypical traits would help the viewer identify with the image. Futhermore, I do not wish to associate my mother with some kind of consumer/producer diner, for she makes all her food with love regardless of any economic factors. I wrote the oedipal complex comment as a joke, you know, the whole mom conspiring with the son to poison the patriarch's food (for clarification, I don't think it's funny, but I think it's funny that it's presented here as a joke).
I don't like trying to do a semantic/identification hunt with these drawings becuase they are interesting when some sort of odd resignification occurs in the TweakToday user's mind, i.e., it makes the pieces much less boring when somebody really digs it or doesn't like it all (heh, externalizing something in your own mind makes you care about it more, right?).
I'll post more "photos" from Tux Paint in the future, but please feel free to post your comments if you like/don't like/are unsure of the piece; I think it adds some sort of meta-meaning or meta-feeling.

A meat-n-three is a place where you get a choice of one meat and three sides. For instance last time I went I had Roast beef, mac-n-cheese, turnip greens, and cream corn. It's also a synonym for delicious.

Not EXACTLY in my neighborhood, but really I couldn't think of a better place than Buzz Brews. Located in the parking lot of a Best Western Hotel in Uptown. Not a bar, but a 24 hour diner aka the best place ever. I couldn't find a picture of the outside so, here are a few. Top left: St Patty's day 3AM, these guys looked like Rob and Big and "Rob" fell off one of the bar stools. So funny. Bottom left: me drinking my favorite drink (which is way more delicious after a 9mile bike ride around White Rock Lake) Cantelopeade. SO GOOD. Especially paired with a make your own crepe of mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, chicken and avacado served with fresh fruit and honey wheat toast. Bottom right: my friend eating Griddle Toast...it was bigger than his face. I'm pretty sure he ate the whole thing. Anyway, if you're ever in Dallas, or live in Dallas, go to Buzz Brews. It will change your life. I could go on and on and on about it.

Moto : 394 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY
My favorite atmosphere / food / dessert in all of NY. The date cake for dessert - or by itself with a black and tan while you listen to live (jazz/dixieland) music in a place only big enough to fit 30 people (ish) that feels like you are stuck in a NY time warp is why it doesn't need a sign outside (just a bike) to draw a following of customers every night and day. mmmm.May 05, 2009 04:25 by danny-

EOS. It's in Cole Valley, SF so it's practically our neighborhood and we go there maybe once a month. If it were cheaper I'd go there all the time. You have to get the shiitake mushroom dumplings - save your bread for the sauce. Mmm so good. PS I admit I didn't take that picture bc it's rainy and gross today which means I'll be avoiding going outside. Thank you Yelp.

I've passed by there a bunch of times. So it's good? I'll have to check it out!

It's so good. I could recommend nearly everything on the menu (oysters, tuna roll, the hanger steak, the duck, pork tenderloin, chocolate molten cake for dessert, just the bread and oil is so good. I am so hungry now!). And they do flights of wine tastings if you are into wine!
