"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

"This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body."

I'm not sure I entirely agree with this, but there was an episode of x-files in which the smoking man presented this alternate theory-
life is like a box of chocolates- a cheap thoughtless perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down with nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while there's a peanut butter cup, an english toffee, but they're gone too fast and taste is fleeting. They end up in nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts, and when you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left i an empty box filled with useless brown paper wrappersJun 30, 2009 08:53 by merendis. -
