June 1971 "It's Too Late / I Feel the Earth Move" by Carole King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Feel_the_Earth_Move) An A-side / b-side hit. #1 June 19th to July 17th and my bday falls within that range.
Yes, I like the songs. "It's Too Late" more than the other.
Carole King's in the photo on the cover for this album (http://i27.tinypic.com/2vwcp37.jpg); she and Alanis Morissette bear a striking resemblence to each other which I found interesting.

*cough* I happen to know too much about Japanese music and this is the only song ever that reached the US Billboard charts. Has been covered by many US artists since then, even Snoop Dogg. Sakamoto died in a plane crash later... scary thing was that he knew it was about to happen so he wrote a letter to his family D:

@sydtheskeptic: That's kind of what I was thinking, that for the year it would have been pretty unusual for a foreign-language song to be so popular in the US. Interesting biography and song history. I like this part of the entry:
'The original Japanese title was considered too difficult for American audiences to remember and pronounce, therefore a well-known word that people would associate with Japan was used - Sukiyaki, even though the word has nothing to do with the song. A Newsweek columnist noted that the re-titling was like issuing "Moon River" in Japan under the title "Beef Stew."' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyu_SakamotoSep 06, 2009 04:07 by kellydna. -
