My Husband has always been a procrastinator and he waited till the last minute to Christmas shop for me. On Christmas Morn I awoke to a Brand new toilet seat. It really was a toilet seat under the tree. He said well we needed a toilet seat so I got you one. The next year he bought me one of those tennis balls that help you park the car in the garage. 28 yrs and we are still together ...Now I take his credit card and buy whatever I want.

I received a 6-piece puzzle, the pieces of which were all the same shape and could be completed in 5 minutes, from one of my mum's well-meaning friends. For my 16th birthday.

Could have sworn I threw this thing out, but no, it's still lurking on a high cabinet. I have an aunt (who I don't like very much, no surprise) who many years ago thought this was a great gift for me. Don't see why. I don't collect crap and never once expressed an interest in stapled cardboard and glued fake wood pieces. Imagine her surprise when I didn't gush over her thoughtfulness!
Ugh!
This same (self-centered waste of human space) refuses to attend any Christmases these days because we only give gifts to the kids. You know, the children who make Christmas special. That's not good enough for her she wants stuff for herself.
Trust me it's no loss that she no longer attends. Good riddance.
And this piece of crap? It's days are numbered.Jan 30, 2010 17:39 by stephie-

OMG, that sure did a good job of hiding! It kind of looks like Sonny and Sydney might have fun playing with it. The holes look big enough. I guess it is less suitable for use in an aquarium :)
Does it come with an explanation of what it is supposed to be?

Hm, my 'draw a box' didn't work as planned. I had meant to draw a box around one of the holes, since those look like a bird or betta might be able to go through there.

I dated this girl for three months. For Christmas her mom made me a scrap book of pictures from the girlfriends childhood, middle school, and high school. It also came with a really sweet, but rather over-the-top letter about her daughter and I. The intention was great but three months in is a bit early.

Back in college (the mid 80's) my sister sent me a complete collection of 8 tracks for the band "Ratt". First by then no one used 8 tracks that much, I had not even had a player for years. Second, I hate that style of music and had never heard of the band. They went straight into the yardsale box.

Three years ago, I got my first brand new car - I was so excited to have it, and it was so shiny and pretty and perfect. A clueless but well-meaning friend gave me a solar powered car fan for Christmas that year - the idea is that you put this plastic fan in your window and it's supposed to keep things cool. It's cheap-looking and not at all what I wanted in my pretty new car. Plus I have air conditioning!!

Cowboy gloves. I was 8 or 9 and my aunt Lillian gave me cowboy gloves for Christmas (Not Hopalong gloves like these, which I could have sold on E Bay, just generic ones.) No one in New York had played cowboys and indians for years. She was out of the loop in other regards as well. Being a good hostess, she served beer to the adults. As the beer had not been refrigerated beforehand, she added ice cubes.

You wouldn't think it, but I don't have an iPhone/iTouch. I don't plan on getting the iPad. I have "other" ways to get MP3's, and Movies cheaper and with better selections. I spent 3 hours trying to return this gift card and get money. Apple Store won't take it and Wal-Mart would have had it come from there, but it didn't! It was a gift and I'm stuck with it. I was going to re-gift it but $15 wasn't enough, so I tried trading it in for a $20 or $25 one. Apple Store said no. I tried to find a $10 one but they only sell $10 gift cards in 3-packs! WTF! I'm declaring an apple gift card the worst gift one could give or receive (unless the recipient specifically likes itunes for some sick reason, or has an iPhone and needs additional apps.)

I'm too lazy to climb up on a latter to get to the top shelf of my closet; but, the most irrelevant gift I've recived was a set of four purple bamaboo placematts with a purple border, and a set of chopsticks. The thought was nice; but I honestly don't know what we would do with those right now. And honestly, it's taking up space in the closet.

This year, my first Christmas with a baby, I was given a magic bullet by my soon-to-be mother-in-law. She told me it's for making baby food, making this gift not so irrelevant, but terrible because I am in the middle of a terrible identity crisis. I feel like I am ONLY Leo's mom, and Mick's soon-to-be wife. So, my big Christmas gift this year was the gift of being able to make homemade baby food. (2nd choice for this mission is the cookie press given by my fiance. So, after I'm done whipping up some food for the baby, I can make cookies.)

Hey, not only can you make homemade baby food, but you can also make yourself some delcious smoothies. Also, if you make cookies around the holidays, the cookie press makes it much less work to do and a whole lot quicker. :D

Ohh, boy do I have an anecdote for this.
I have a Great Aunt Edith who is known for sending weird gifts, bless her. For instance, when I was nine, she got me a candle snuffer for Christmas. And then there was the time when she bought me two address books, wrapped as a gift together. (One address book would have been nice. I don't need two.)
However, the craziest gift ever was given to my dad/aunt when they were teenagers. They opened their gift from Auntie Edith and found... a giant green paper clip - about the size of a magazine.
Seriously. A giant green paper clip. That was the gift. To this day, they still haven't figured out what on earth it was for.Jan 30, 2010 05:15 by yadarfyn-

I have two aunts, and I love them both very very very much, but this Christmas... Not that I mind. It's the thought that counts.
Aunt #1 has always been an awful gift giver. At first my siblings and I suspected she secretly hated my mother, thought she was low class cowboy trash (these are both my father's sisters), and was subtly letting her know with a series of awful awful gifts. As we grew older, and our gifts grew substantially worse (it's easier to buy for kids I guess), we understood- she simply doesn't know what people want, and how what they're like translates into a gift.
She's also rich, so she generally just gives us a little gift and a check.
This here bracelet (I don't wear jewelry) I was able to exchange for two simple tops!Jan 30, 2010 03:09 by merendis-

Ok, since anything irrelevant has been either dumped into the trash bin or oblivion, this is the less relevant. *Still* it is relevant 'cause its evident coolness; for I always loved mantas and stingrays; and because I even dressed it for some months as a pendant - years ago... It was a birthday gift from the best housemates one could desire at uni.
