I could take the easy way out, and show you all a picture of the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Instead, I give you something much closer to where I from: a picture of the gorgeous Adirondack mountains at the height of autumn color. Not everyone in New York lives in New York City.

  I live in a little village in up state NY of about 500 people but if I tell someone I'm from New Your they ask about the city 90% of the time. Many people do not realize NYC is a little part of a big state.

  @ltfreak: it's like an unwritten rule that if you are in Ohio, you will be stuck in Ohio for the rest of eternity. some escape, but a majority are content with wishing they were somewhere else but don't make any plans to leave. that's just how it is 'round these woods. :).

This covers a lot of ground. Here I am at the Great Minnesota Get-Together, otherwise known as the Minnesota State Fair, on a beautiful summer's day. I am wearing a Minnesota Twins baseball team cap (TC stands for the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul), standing in front of a fiberglass representation of our state rodent (the golden gopher), drinking Summit Beer which is brewed in St. Paul, and served on a stick which is how everything comes at the State Fair. Minnesot-ah!

  @leopicado: McCormick is out of Chicago. CT is known both as the "Constitution State" based on its colonial constitution that dates from 1639, as well as the "Nutmeg State" most probably due to the spice being brought there by trading vessels. Legend has it, that nutmeg was so expensive, many a yankee peddler would sell knobs of wood that resembled the spice to unwary travelers.

  @notanotherskye: come to Venice :-) Just come and loose yourself into the labyrinth. I suggest you neither winter nor summer. April/May is perfect (or September). You won't find me there though, I had to move to a small town near mountainside in 2005. Unfortunately the main problem for tourists is the cost of a room inside the island.

Pennsylvania's a tough one. Although it's one state, it has many regions that are completely different (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Northeast PA, the steel and coal towns of the north and west), I decided to go with the Penn State Nittany Lion, since State College, PA is in the middle of the state, it's the biggest school in PA and I got my masters degree from them. (Not my pic)

My states dinosaur, the Stegosaurus. :)

Stegosaurus is an appropriate state fossil for Colorado, both because its bones are plentiful in Morrison Formation sediments, and because some of the most important discoveries have been made in the state.

At the time when Stegosaurus roamed Colorado, the area was a vast lowland plain dotted with streams, rivers, and lakes. The Ancestral Rockies were worn down to low hills, and the present Rocky Mountains had yet to form. The time was the Jurassic Period, around 145 million years ago, and dinosaurs were plentiful and diverse throughout the world.

  This is awesome. I looked it up and there's only a few states that have official state dinosaurs. This needs to be changed! It would be cool if every place (state or not) has a coinciding dinosaur.

  Its a very famous picture in downtown Austin by singer/artist Daniel Johnston. For a while now it has been one of the staples of Austins "Keep Austin Weird" campaign. Its actually been seen in a couple of movies recently like "Whip It"
