My do-gooderly feeling has lasted two weeks! My friend @zoe is collecting to help fundraise for organ donation awareness. Again, it's not a huge amount, but f I hadn't done this mission the first time around, I probably wouldn't have contributed anything to this cause today. Yay, Tweak Today!

Let some ungrateful stranger who cut through a parking lot to avoid traffic, cut in front of me while waiting in line at a red light. Not even a lil' "thank you" wave in return. Sad.

I always give the thank you wave! Though I try not to be inconsiderate in the first place.

I have not left the house except for doctor visits and tests since February 3rd, so I guess my good deed for the day was cleaning the house and cooking dinner despite the excruciating pain of a herniated disk pressing against my sciatic nerve. hi TT'ers, hope you didn't forget me!

I've been building a website on a discounted rate because it is for an education program for disadvantaged kids in Boston. It is also good for me because it is my first full project. I did a lot of work on it today. I suppose that counts.

I read aloud to preschoolers for 2 hrs (part of my americorps job). The things some of those kids have to say are an absolute riot sometimes.

I went into our idiotic Service Request Manager (IT's way of requesting service) and put in requests for a few people so they wouldn't have to scratch their heads and jump through hoops trying to figure the stupid program out. Also taught my mother-in-law how to use her DVR over the phone. Tech good deeds make sure you get a Mac that never breaks in heaven.

I'm still considering where to donate to. I don't want to donate to Haiti; not because I have anything against Haiti, but because I can't help but feel the rest of the world's problems seemed to get forgotten about when the earthquake happened. I wonder if there are any good trade justice charities out there. Does anyone know of any?

@rabbitdan: I felt the same way, also in that it's turning into a fashionable thing w/ Beyonce and all the stars and such. But Doctors w/o Borders uses the money where it's needed--not sure if all of it is going to Haiti.

@athanie: I gather Doctors without Borders are a good charity. Not sure why but I'm sure I met or know someone who did something with them. Anyway, you've triggered more serious thought on my charitable giving generally. I stopped because I had no money at all for a while but I must do it again. I could easily write an essay at this point but will restrain myself.

Out of interest, what is a good deed? Where's the line between good deed and something different, whatever that may be? Is there one? Could a good deed be not doing something?

Hmm. Good deeds through inaction is an interesting thought. Like, "hey, by sitting here I'm not contributing to bad things. I'm not hurting or causing harm to anything. Since I'm not doing those bad things, I'm doing a good thing." Inactive deeds would be...the dark matter of good deeds?--undetectable, but still existing in a way?

@athanie: Yes. kind of. I was thinking of an act of discipline of some description. Or perhaps stopping doing something one had been doing.

Just donated to Doctors Without Borders (http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/), a medical humanitarian group that works in Haiti and other places where there are people in need of medical help. Should have done this a long time ago/should be doing this regularly. :\ Felt great to donate, though! Photo is from their website.

Oh what a good point. I was just about to tweak that the closest I had come to doing a good deed today was buying @a_noob a pint of Guinness. I haven't really been doing any giving of that kind lately.

Tonight I will give a coin to one of the beggars in Oblivion.
(Anyone who has ever played the game and listened to the stupid voice effects they use for the beggars will understand this is a totally selfless act. For those who don't know the game, the voice in this video is one of the more pleasant ones.)Feb 17, 2010 09:53 by chaomancer -

Did you know that February is Pet Dental Health Month? I am doing a good deed for Robbin Rabbit today by having his teeth trimmed. I know it's not like helping a little old lady across the street, but it will make him feel better on a couple of fronts.
Update: In addition to the general filing down of small points, he had two molars that were badly overgrown, one of which was digging into his cheek on the side visible above, creating a sore and (I believe) causing the chronic watering of his eye that you can see.Feb 17, 2010 07:16 by kellydna from iphone-

Pet Dental Heath Month... where do you find out these things? They may need to work on their advertising campaign.
I'm sure he appreciated it, and don't worry- in my experience little old ladies are far less kind and grateful than you'd imagine.Feb 17, 2010 10:00 by merendis. -

@rabbitdan: I didn't really have to put myself out to help a stranger by taking my rabbit to the vet for an appointment that's been scheduled for two weeks. I think of a good deed as being for someone other than myself and which involves a selfless action I wouldn't normally take.
