I went to see the Percy Jackson movie this past weekend, and wanted to read the rest of the books, so I bought the first and second one. Good thing I grabbed the first one, because it is very different from the movie! I don't usually read young adult fiction like this, but it's easy for my soft brain right now. And it's fun!

@jenaissance: How old is he? There were some monsters that were pretty scary. A couple had their little ones with them in the theater we were in (maybe three years old) and I was worried about them. The monsters were scary!! If you think your son can handle monsters, bring him. It was fun (if a bit cheesy) and quite enjoyable!

@leopicado: It's a story about a man and his son walking through America several years after an undisclosed apocalyptic event. They have nothing but ragged clothes, a shopping trolley, their respective illnesses and each other. The weather is cold. Everything is bleak and unforgiving. Society no longer exists, only small groups of savages and cannibals banding together . They occasionally find small respite or shelter. They move on. They mostly live on old rusted tins of food found in ghostly supermarkets. There's no way out.

@pensandpencilsgalore: See above for synopsis. As for my thoughts on it, erm... It seems to be aiming for this big heavy truth about the human condition that it doesn't feel quite true enough to hit. I have this issue with fiction on an increasingly regular basis. Large parts of it could be summed up by saying 'Well, gee, life sure is hard'.

I know Galeano for being a person who exposes the real history of South America, taking in consideration the huge sufferings peoples had to undergo due to the western-northern politics, such as all the brutal counter-insurrectionalism of last hundreds year. We should never forget that the genocides pepetrated in Latin and central America have been quantitatively the biggest in history.bai guess this book will explain a true history.

I went into the comic book near me recently. I asked for a cute comic, but nothing like a super-hero sort of thing, just something cute enough to cheer me up. I haven't really been to many comic stores, though I like comics. I hate spending money on them. He got me a bone comic and I said I'd give it a try. It was Bone #30. It got me interested and a week or two at most later, I got that one in the picture above at Barnes & Nobel. :) I don't want to buy so many 10$ books, so I may spring for the all-in-one version sold on the website. But yeah, it's good. :)

I'm only at about page 50 but it's very interesting so far. This biography is unique because it suggests that Houdini worked as a spy for Scotland Yard, monitored Russian anarchists and chased counterfeiters for the U.S. Secret Service — all before he was possibly murdered. A lot of reviewers say that the authors are only pontificating and that the spy aspect of the book is to heavy but I haven't gotten to that part yet.
