KURT FTW. It's a collection of some of Vonnegut's short stories, and they were all really interesting. For example, the short story from which it takes its name, "Welcome to the Monkey House" is about a futuristic dystopia in which the human population is around 17 billion, and "ethical birth control" is now mandatory. (Ethical birth control basically numbs you from the waste down). A criminal known as Billy the Poet, known for writing women poems before raping them, is loose and after the main character, Nancy. (I'm pretty sure I just described the story in the worst way possible, but really, it's rather thought provoking). Other stories range from survivors of an airplane crash, forced to fight for their lives via chessboard, to radio transmittable euphoria. I highly recommend this book.

I found KVj when I was around 14 or 15. Totally changed the way I see the world. Breakfast of Champions was my first book, then Welcome to the Monkey House.

Cool. I just gave this book, last night to my friend to read as an intro to KVJ. He is from, or spent a lot of his life in cape cod, where I am from kind of. There was a Howard Johnsons in Hyanis, which is in one of his stories.

I finished reading this book a few days ago. It was actually one of the books that was suggested to me as a result of the 6/25 mission.

This was the first Vonnegut book I've read and I thought it was pretty interesting. It reminded me a lot of movies that focus on two completely opposite characters that eventually come together in the end although the end result isn't necessarily a happy ending.

I love this book very much. I wrote my thesis on it. It is a happy ending. KVJ frees Trout. I love it.

Speak is a novel by Laurie Halse Anderson about a teenager named Melinda Sordino who is an outcast as a high school freshman. A few weeks before her freshman year of high school, Mel and her group of friends are invited to a high school party. Due to reasons later revealed in the book, Mel phoned the police. The police broke up the party for underage drinking, arresting some of the kids. She tells no one what happened in the following weeks, and as a result, all her friends and the party goers are angry with her for getting them into trouble. As Melinda's depression worsens, she begins to skip school, withdraws from her parents, and aspires to do nothing more than take a nap...

I just re-read this to dermis I hated it as much as I thought I did. The first time I truly hated it. I refused to see the movie because I didn't like the book. That was 10 years ago. This time I actually enjoyed it. Dark, depressing, no happy ending, but quite well written. I plan on reading Shutter Island next (same author)

Ooh Shutter Island I really liked in the theatre, thought it was great. Hope that means good things for the book!
