I got a new tattoo with @saxchik on Friday in Minneapolis! It's my biggest tat because it's my FIRST tat! Hey, longtime TTers—I made it permanent!!! It's adventurous because until the first time I drew this rabbit on my wrist with a Sharpie for a mission, I had adamantly declared I'd never, ever get a tattoo. Times have changed :-D
The original mission (for me): http://www.tweaktoday.com/users/kellydna/mission_submissions/2009-10-31 Hey, @saxchik, if you look at the comments in this submission, @cantfindagoodname calls it a "badass" rabbit!

I'm not sure whether to describe my favorite dive in Hawaii, Lanai Lookout, with its caves and tunnels (one of which my dive buddy found when he was...errrmm... looking for a place to relieve himself under water) or to describe my 4-month stay in the Japanese jail system. Lanai lookout is brain-sizzling. Read my description here: http://shorediving.com/Earth/Hawaii/Oahu/Lanai_Lookout/index.htm DO NOT try this dive unless you're very experienced and have a local diveguide intimately familiar with this site to take you the first few times. Attractions and dangers include Shotgun Point, a census taker's fishtrap that some malicious divers often put inflatable love dolls (and love sheep...don't ask!) into, a twisty dark tunnel at the end, and a few aviodable shallow whitewater bays. Entry is via diving off a small cliff into a bay of whitewater, then through an underwater archway. Thrills include surge-riding in "windchime cavern", the floor of which is covered in old corals that tinkle in the surge like little bells. My stay in Japan's jail was precipitated by me taking down unsightly illegal ads posted on utility poles around my neighborhood, and a mixture of me not apologizing for the act and the prosecutors and judge and "my" lawyer being plain ol' jerks. The first half of my stay was with a surprisingly good-natured mafia cannon who loved scuba and wanted to learn English. The second half was in solitary in another jail, so I wouldn't pass on messages to his fellow gang members staying in that jail. I got a lot of studying done, met some surprisingly peaceful gangsters and thoroughly nuts psychos, learned to like almost all the jail guards, and wound up doing a fair amount of verbal translating between the guards and the prisoners. Biggest surprise: you can shop while in jail, for roughly half the contents of a 7-Eleven, including such seemingly dangerous items as scissors and surprising stuff like hot meals. Biggest surprises: the second jail is neither cooled in summer nor heated in winter; inmates can buy any books they want; one jail allowed only pens-- no pencils nor erasers-- and only one pen per pair of prisoners while the other jail allowed only black, blue, and red pens and pencils....only three pens/pencils at a time. If you look at some of the art on my website, Tessellations.org, you'll see that some of it has regular grey lines that I've tried to digitally erase from the backgrounds. Those pieces were created in pen in jail, where the only paper allowed has lines on it (so we can't forge documents, I suppose).

In college I smuggled booze across the Canadian border. I was always the fool who'd pretend to be asleep, but I'd have loads of booze under my blanket. I almost lost it once when the border guard inquired about "sleeping beauty."
Anyway, I never think anything I do is adventurous and then I mention things in conversation and people are shocked. So, yeah, I'll stick to the Canada thing and never mention drug smuggling across the Mexican border or anything else.

@sethness: You build up so much speed you need to break... a lot towards the end. This was the occasion in which I hit the tree. No broken bones, but I had some good bruises and cuts to remember the ocassion.

SELL IT, never ride it. I'm a cautious driver, yet I've had three crippling accidents in 10 years. Can't walk properly nor straighten my arm now. Seriously, wrap metal around your soft body (as in, be in a car) rather than vice versa (as in, a motorbike). Motorbikes are insanely dangerous.

Seriously, I hav ehad so many friends damaged and deadened by motorbikes, but not one by car. Find a car you love, and go that way, man! Here in Phuket, there are 30x more motorbike deaths than car-related. Is there a car you like/love/can't wait to drive?

I've done a bunch of crazy stuff, I used to hitchike all the time, alone, and pretty far. I'm a 5'2" female. I'm older now, and haven't done it as much. I was in Montpelier VT last fall and decided to walk home one day, I live in Boston. I hitched rides, but spent most of it walking along the river. It was beautiful. I made it to Keene NH about 120 miles away when I called my signifigant other and asked him to get me. I don't think I'll ever do that again, but you never know.

@stephie: I did get rides along the way. I'm not sure the total walked. It took me all day though, so probably like 13 hours, and I didn't really stop.

Apologies for the length ...
A few years ago I was asked by work to go to Indonesia to install a new System. I was told to fly to Jakarta where someone would pick me up and take me to a house in Cilegon, where I’d be contacted. That’s as far as my knowledge went.
When I arrived in Jakarta there was no one there to meet me. I didn’t know an address in Cilegon to go to, so couldn’t even use one of the local taxi drivers who I was surrounded by. I didn’t even realise Cilegon was 70 miles away!
After a very long hour and a half, a guy arrived waving my name on a card. He didn’t speak English, but took me to a place outside the terminal where I was to stand until he came back with the car to pick me up. Five minutes after he left I was moved on at gun point by the Indonesia army and told to stand on the next level up.
15 mins later the car came, stopped, and I put my luggage into the boot, jumped in and off we went.
When he asked me where we were going I realised this wasn’t my driver and I’d jumped into the wrong car. I got the driver to stop, but I thought if I got out before him he could drive away with all my luggage … so I spent a while trying to get him out of the car. He did, and I quickly got out, got my stuff and ended up trading blows in a fist fight with the driver over payment – which I wasn’t going to give him!
So, I walked back to the airport and eventually found the correct driver and car.
He took me to Cilegon, but through villages where crowds of teenagers would stand in the road (dirt track) to slow the car down before hitting it with sticks and trying and rob us. This happened about 4 times en route.
Eventually I arrived at my house in Cilegon, which came complete with an armed guard to protect me while I was there.
When I mentioned my adventures the next day at work, it turned out the driver had been given money for the toll roads, but must have pocketed it himself – which is why he was late and we had to drive through the dangerous country villages.
He was sacked and I got a new driver… and I enjoyed the rest of my time in Indonesia!Jun 29, 2011 06:26 by demander-

Fly halfway across the world to meet a stranger (technically, at the time, he was, in a face to face sense). That was a long time ago, but it's still the most adventurous (and bravest/craziest) thing I've ever done. I don't like to fly, be/travel alone, or deal with crowds so that all took some guts I didn't know I had.
