@kellydna: Alas it is a quicksilver G4, but it is an 867Mhz. One of only three left that work! I pillaged its RAM a few years ago, but the hard drives are still there. Sounds like a jet engine when you turn it on.

Way back in April 2009 I completed by second ever mission "Take a picture of something you know you should throw out, but haven't yet." I'm not only re-doing this, but I'm also sorry to say that it's all still there.. a veritable museum of old Macs from the Macintosh II and SE30 all the way up to the 9-tonne eMac.

This pocket bag passed to me from my mother's side of the family. It's a WW1 soldier's kit. The small badge is an Officer's collar badge for dress occasions. The larger one says "Ubique Quo fas et Gloria dacunt" or "everywhere, whither glory and duty lead," and is an emblem of the Royal Artillery.
Although I don't have any surviving relatives who could tell me where this kit came from, I keep it as a reminder that it could one day be me given one and told to go fight.

I played (and still do) a lot of FPS games. When choosing a name for Tweak Today, I thought it would be a good idea to name myself "a noob" since in the early days I was one, and now I've been here for over two years it's not as true, but still funny.. imo.

@chaomancer: these things become your children; if they are unwell, you don't sleep, and if they misbehave then it annoys a lot of people. Giving them a name, and forming the relationship between the machines you have stewardship of is a very important step in accepting that no matter how late the night, or how much money it costs, if they break, you have to fix them. Your job and livelihood depend on it. Srs bsns.

bought two of these servers last week. The first one went in on Friday and is called "Carthage." I'm torn between "Nubia", "Kush", "Pompeii" or "Atlantis" for its sister. Naming a server is serious business.

@leah: Fenwick's is good for shopping, then walking through the arcade to the alternative culture shops in Eldon square (well hidden!), a walk starting at the station towards the Tyne, along the Quayside, over the 'blinking eye' millennium bridge to the Baltic modern art gallery (which is always excellent). Opposite is a Pitcher and Piano for lunch, or a Slug and Lettuce further up opposite the Sage (an astonishing concert venue and very unusual building). My favourite spot for lunch is a tea room upstairs in the Tyneside Cinema just off Pilgrim Street. Enjoy!

I visited (after many bottles of Sierra Navada), this Turkish grill/chicken place beside the train station. I enjoyed a chicken breast chargrilled in a bun, which was tasty and had a distinctive middle-eastern taste. The chips were also tasty and skinny (my preferred kind) but over-salted.
