The film does sound uplifting. The book is uplifting in its own way. I enjoyed it. With the reservations I usually have for novels these days.

I finished the book a little bit ago--have yet to see the movie though. I was prepared to cry throughout the whole thing based on others telling me how depressing it was, but it's not as sad as they say.

My hub and I listened to the unabridged book on tape (well, MP3 as the case may be) driving down to Florida last year. "Grey" and "ash" were the words of the week for our visit with my mom.
