@leopicado: (@demander) The FIRST time I saw I thought the same. Then I stepped back and considered the task at hand. How can you fit that book into a 2-hour movie? You can't. Douglas Adams was involved in the screenplay so the different stuff, such as Humma Kavula, isn't out of nowhere. The second time I saw it I liked it a whole lot better, and now it's one of my go-to DVDs. I think all things considered, it's a really enjoyable movie in a completely different way than the book. There are just enough inside jokes from the book to keep the hard-corers happy, with enough other contrivances to make an enjoyable movie for the general public. Also at first I wondered about the casting but have since come to love Mos Def and absolutely ADORE Zooey Deschanel and Martin Freeman, well, and Sam Rockwell. And Alan Rickman and Bill Nighy, well!
Oh dear, that seems to have been a bit of a tangent! FWIW, I love Shaun of the Dead and Love, Actually as well.
