It's a fun coincidence that I both live AND work on South 5th Street.
For those of you keeping score: "Blue signs are posted on arterial streets with heavy traffic. Green signs are posted on streets that run North and South, brown signs are posted on streets that run East and West." You live and work on South 5th Street? There's a title for a great piece of Gonzo journalism in there somewhere.

Your pictures are always so bright and and cheery... even your fridge pic was the brightest and cheeriest of them all- are you surrounded by an aura of sunshine or something?

@coco-tidan: That is four blocks to the south. The seedy hotel that inspired the lyrics is now a smarmy luxury hotel. http://www.chambersminneapolis.com/

@merendis: Bright and cheery? Me? Gosh, thanks! I must point out that the weather in these two photos is rainy and dreary (and unseasonably cool). We've seen the sun for a total of about one hour in the last couple of weeks. But I guess it's true that I am generally optimistic and self-confident on one level.

@rabbitdan: Funny you should mention that. I have been formulating a writing idea in the last few days …

@merendis: p.s May I direct you to the latest photo I posted on fb a little while ago?

@poetics: what is the 612?
This comment has been flagged by users. Click to view.
@rabbitdan: 612 is one of the local telephone area codes.

@rabbitdan: it's a relatively common thing in the states to reference your area code with pride. And some are very well known (212 for Manhattan, 305 for Miami, 718 for Brooklyn etc.)
I personally rep the 816. It's the best. Even when I'm way out in the +48, I rep it proudly.

@merendis: Speaking of the 816, how 'bout that @a_noob flying through MSP? Unfortunately, even though it's a straight shot down 35, KC is just a little too far away for a quick visit.

@kellydna: I know! You two had better grab a drink- doesn't he have quite a long layover? Regardless, at some point (hopefully next summer, but we shall see) I want to realise my dream of spending a long time in a canoe with a tent in the boundary waters at Voyageur National Park, and I've somehow convinced @a_noob to come along. Between your posts and my raves, he's become quite interested in seeing a state fair. So I (and he) think it'd be nice to visit you and see the fair and introduce a gaping englishman to fried candybars and beer. Asking you is really only a formality, we've completely made up our minds ;)

@merendis: You're welcome any time! The State Fair is in the couple of weeks leading up to Labor Day. http://www.mnstatefair.org/ Yeah, I don't know if there's anything quite like it in England.
