    Gorgeous day today. Warm and sunny. The first bugs I saw were too small and fast to take a picture of, like restless little pixies getting a jump on spring, so I took a walk and found some industrious fire ants. Sorry for the iPhone photo, but if you squint right you should be able to see the little guy carrying a chunk of leaf in the line.

    This is HARD. Maybe sushi? Maybe filet mignon? I think I'd have to go with grilled fresh octopus, peas, and chocolate truffles. I know the peas seem out of place, but I really, really like peas. This is making me hungry.

      My friends and I have a joke about how absurd it'd be to go to a sushi restaurant/Japanese grocery and then leaving with one of these big octopus legs dangling from one's mouth.

    When I read this, all I could think about was the Dapper Dan pomade that George Clooney's character talks about incessantly in the movie Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? I should watch that movie again. I have no idea how it smells, though.

    Totally. The butts smell worse than the actual smoking, especially when they are sitting out on a table at an outside bar and they get kind of wet and gooey overnight... sorry, flashing back to some nasty places I've spent time.

    You have inspired me to start working again on the hubby to agree to eat sushi in Austin- he believes it's too far from the coast which is funny since it's only about 3 hours.

    Hmm, to-do list for today...
    1. Take a shower- check
    2. Work on dissertation and book chapters I'm writing.
    2a. Feel bad and berate myself for not doing enough (any) work on my dissertation or the book chapters I'm writing- check.
    3. Knit a sock- check.
    4. Go to fancy dinner in the University of Texas stadium lounge.
    5. Help my hubby edit the first completed chapter of his Masters thesis.

    That's just about all there is to my life most days (minus 4 and 5- special occasions, fun!). Sad, or wonderful? Since I don't have a job, probably sad, but quite pleasant.

    @discomeg2 I got these handles at a hobby store, I think it was Hobby Lobby, but it could have been Jo-Ann Fabrics or Michaels. They tend to only have a couple of types made to look vintage (usually bamboo and tortoiseshell style), though, so you might need to hunt the interwebz to get one that matches. Good luck!

    My hubby (sometimes :P), most cats, nature, a really good beer, hiking, a nice hot shower, good chocolate, shopping with present money, my computer (because I got one of the dell laptops with an artist's illustration on it), clean sheet night. And I defy you not to smile at my super cute kitty.

    Yeah, I still have it (a Christmas gift from somewhere around 1987), hooked up to the LCD TV. Tetris is loaded up and ready to go at any time.

      Weird situation. I have a bag with handles like that .It is vintage and amazing. Today one of them snapped. Where would I go about getting replacements. They were like the ones you used except larger and red.

      Wow. That picture brings it home how insanely big Tokyo is. Massive. Utterly massive. A very good friend of mine lives there and I have been promising to visit for ages. It does look like an incredible place.
