I have only ever seen student opera live, and I liked Carmen and hated Woyzek (left after the first act it was so boring). This is very, very different and very, very, very much better than I had expected. Makes me think I should go see a professional opera. I probably will never listen to it without the visuals, but with the staging and actual acting (I had never before seen an opera singer act- they always just stood were they were blocked and sang loud), it looks like a pretty good time.

I saw the BBC miniseries from the 80s of Neverwhere, and even though it has that tacky 80s quality, it was AWESOME. I can't wait to read the book.

Changed everything about how I eat. I tell people to watch it constantly, but unfortunately it hasn't changed anything for my roommates who still buy cheap, cheap, cheap and don't seem to care at all about the consequences.

I read a newspaper story about an artist in Austin who surreptitiously paints people in local coffee shops. Her work is beautiful and captures a lovely, spontaneous quality in her inadvertent models.
See the paintings on her blog, "I Stare at People" lavanna.com

@logosfabula: I think he wants more light, but I keep him on the window sill of the brightest south facing window in the house. He has actually gotten much bigger since I moved him into this container. I only water him about once a month or so (I don't keep track) and he just keeps growing and growing, always sideways, though.

@pensandpencilsgalore I used to all the time, and I still do occasionally, but my husband eventually admitted he was being rude. He swears that sometimes he is so involved with what he's doing he just doesn't hear me. I think it's because he spent his entire childhood life with the television on constantly and had to train himself to think amidst distraction, thus he automatically tunes out all sound, yet can't stand to have the sound turned off.

Wow, that last one stinks. I see it too often, though. It's fun to be loved, but really, pitifully selfish to let it go on and on without either trying it out or cutting it off. Happened to one of my friends, too. She finally said something to the guy and got rejected, but now she is moving on at last. I hope you find someone who appreciates you.

#4 made me laugh. I come from a family of inveterate complainers. My sister even earned the nickname Bitchcraft in college, and she is not in any way a mean person. It drives my husband nuts, so I'm really working on reducing the complaining.

In no particular order...
1. Very loud bass music that makes the inside of my head vibrate.
2. People who chew with their mouths open.
3. People who don't throw trash in trash cans.
4. Arguments against giving gays and lesbians the right to get married.
5. Women who hate/fear feminists.
6. People who treat their kids like they are perfect, special little flowers and not spoiled brats in need of some serious discipline.
7. Students who think the job of a teacher is to give them whatever they need to get an A in a class (read those brats from #6).
8. My husband tuning me out without letting me know so I just keep talking and talking and then have to repeat it all when I get to the end and realize he didn't hear a thing I had said. Urg.
9. Religious and/or political intolerance of any variety. I include within that people who assume their position is so right, anyone who doesn't agree with it must be mentally deficient or uninformed in some way.
10. People who happily trade liberty for safety.-

I liked Oblivion, but I really, really like Dragon Age Origins even more. You get a much greater sense that your decisions affect the progression of the story- sort of like Fable, but without such an overt good/evil binary. Also the npc reactions to you differ depending on what race/class combination you choose making it harder or easier to do some quests. I wish I had more time for it.

I'm also a fan of TV show marathons. There's something about the episodic nature that I've been liking a lot more than movies. There's much more plot involved with a 26 episode series vs. a 2 hour movie. Much more entertaining, assuming it's a good show.
