I'm fine with a bit of chitchat, but somethings just cross the line (I once had a guy randomly ask me if I thought he'd die if he stepped in front of a moving bus. . . ) -

Those drastic personality changes that you're expecting, like suddenly becoming mature at 20 aren't going to happen. You will change, but so gradually that you won't notice unless you look back, and you'll always stay pretty much the same person.
Also, people are all basically the same at the core, the more different or exotic you think someone is the more things you'll probably be able to find in common. -

For some reason my stint in Montréal has made me strangely protective of her when people insult her as you have... not that I like her or anything, it's just a gut reaction. Can't blame you or anything ;)

@merendis: not sure why you feel this way - you'll remember when I was in the Canadian bar last year with a dozen drunken canucks, we were discussing famous Canadians, and when I mentioned "her," the entire bar fell silent, people stood up and the music even stopped. Pretty sure our future countrymen feel the same way we do, with added facepalm embarrassment too..
