@athanie: Oh, so you could. That would be really nice, like putting a t-shirt on straight out of the drier. It's just occured to me that the people on the website selling these things must be making a killing. They're selling them for €22 a pair! I could make myself some with fresh loaves from the bakery this afternoon. Nothing would quite beat the excitement of getting a pair in the post though. Hmm. Oh, slipped into ramble mode there.

It shows. I enjoy stepping on things in the street deliberately. Always have. (I think I used to tell myself it would curry favour with the aliens coming to visit. not a belief that has persisted, alas) As long as it's not poo. I don't step on that.

I can't think of a single thing I believe in as an adult that I believed in as a child. I'm religious but my adult faith is quite different to whatever I thought when I was a kid. That is indeed a much richer idea of tragedy. It's no wonder Greek tragedies are so full of insight into our frail condition and still resonate so well now. It's beginning to bum me out that so little these days measures up. Saying that, we're most probably only left with the highlights of hundreds of years of Greek culture.
