I moved to my friend Chris's flat in Hove, next to Brighton on 13/11/2004. Happily this flat was located on the seafront quite close to the west pier. This may even have been the view from Chris's window. Anyway, I spent quite a lot of time watching birds over the pier that winter. They would fly round the pier in these massive flocks for hours. Very beautiful sight.

In the winter I think the sea has a different quality to it vs. in the summer, and this photo captures that. Very nice.

@stephie: It was pretty glorious. I fell in love with the sea when I lived there.

@athanie: The way the sea changes is a thing of subtle wonder. It's something I want to continue striving to document. It's always interesting talking to wind surfers about the appearance of the sea. They tend to be good at reading it.

A friend in Ohio lives in a small town on Lake Erie. During one winter visit, I stood on the shore snapping photo after photo (back in the good old 35mm days) because each second brought something more beautiful than the previous. I get mesmerized by big water.
