I have very mixed feelings about this book. At face value, it seems like a book about allowing a complete lack of objectivity on the human's part, and a colossal stupidity on the tree's part, as the kid takes and takes, even to the point of sitting on the dead tree's stump, and the tree just gives and gives willingly, without expecting reward or even a degree of protection from harm. Is it a metaphor for oil companies raping the environment?

@sethness As I see it, this is a picture of unconditional love. it's like a mothers love, she gives and gives. They rarely get thanked for all the work they do, laundry, cooking. All of this stuff is expected, and it is her job if she has chosen it, but thanks is nice. I don't think it was intended as an environmental thing but it very well could be. i've not looked it up.

1. unemployment process -u have to jump through hoops to get $$ you paid into.
2. patent system - so much cost and work to get anything patented, and you have to file in every country. Can we not apply a patent globally?

de-criminalize marijuana... seriously, the drug wars haven't worked for 20 years, it's only wasted a lot of tax dollars, killed a lot of people, and put a lot of innocent people in jail that just want to chill out. Not to say I'm a partaker, but I still think the law is stupid. I'm not saying it should be anarchy, limit the amount your allowed to have on you, fine those that exceed it. Putting people in jail for smoking something that grows out of the ground with no harm to the body (only positive side effects) is retarded. If the government could figure out a way to tax it, they would.

I don't think it was ever intended to end drug use. I think it was an excuse to be afraid of yet another invisible enemy, like the Communist scare before it, and the Terrorist scare after it. I think it's been a successful 20 years for its intended purpose: we voted right-wing and sent big funds to right-wing groups like law enforcement. Did you know we have more people in jail, per capita, than any other nation on the planet? True. 40% or so are in for drug-related charges. "Land of the free, home of the brave"? Not recently.

Hey past self,
You know that internet thing that's starting to take off? yea, your going to be spending a lot more of your time on it, and it's going to get really fast, and every business will be connected on it. Also video games get really good looking, pinball takes a nosedive, and cars still only get 30mpg. Also you will lose a bunch of weight because you'll get sick of being fat, and you still ride your bicycle because you love to do it.
